In the fall of 2017, Sarah packed up and moved to Seattle for a job at Flywheel Sports—without knowing a single soul. The infamous “Seattle Freeze” hit hard, as she awkwardly attempted to befriend baristas, bartenders, and even elevator strangers…all to no avail.
Enter Kayla. A Flywheel superstar, adored by instructors and members alike—especially the legendary Alicia Miller. Seeing Sarah’s overly eager, yet painfully lonely, attempts at socializing, Alicia played matchmaker, arranging a fateful night at Shorty’s for the three of them. Just ten minutes (and one Rainier beer) in, Sarah and Kayla were deep in laughter over terrible dating stories, belting out Flagpole Sitta, and debating whether greasy Rocco’s pizza was a necessity (it was.) From that moment on, they were inseparable—whether it was impromptu Mariners games or late-night karaoke marathons.

Even when Sarah moved to Colorado during COVID, their bond never wavered. Kayla has been her rock, her confidante, and the mastermind behind every big moment—including meticulously planning and hosting the weekend of Sarah and Joe’s engagement.
Kayla has been one of Sarah’s biggest inspirations on how to live life to the fullest by always wearing an armor made of happiness and strength, through times of both magnanimous joy and crippling challenge. She finds lessons and silver linings in the face of doubt, and has never taken a side stitching moment of laughter in the sun for granted. Sarah found the best version of herself in Seattle, right next to her partner in crime, and Maid of Honor, Kayla.
