James Drewes

Tampa, Florida

BRIDE’S BROTHER + USHER

James and Sarah’s story began on December 28, 1992, when James entered the world as the baby brother to two loud, opinionated—but fiercely loving—sisters. From the start, their bond was undeniable, built on toy trains, late-night games of manhunt, and eventually evolving into a shared love of all things Tampa sports and deep house music.

Sarah has a habit of following her headstrong little brother from city to city. After college, she moved to Orlando—because James was there. When James graduated from the University of Central Florida and announced, without question, that he was moving to Los Angeles, no one could stop him. Sarah, however, wasn’t about to let the distance last for long. After countless solo concerts and a few too many tears, she transferred jobs and packed her bags for LA, ensuring her partner-in-crime was just down the street once again.

James eventually stayed in LA after Sarah found her footing, but when she moved to Seattle, he was right there, driving the car—because Sarah’s Florida roots made her no match for the city’s infamous hills. And when it was time for Sarah to leave Seattle for Denver, James once again took the wheel, braving avalanche season and late-night road trip shenanigans fueled by beers and pull tabs in legal states.

Through every chapter, James has been Sarah’s rock. He is the calm in chaos, the voice of reason in their family, and though he may not be the loudest sibling, his words always carry the most weight. Sarah stands strong in her independence because of James—but if she could have him by her side forever, she certainly wouldn’t complain.
